I’m back.

As I say in my About page, I listen to music in Spanish, mostly mariachi, banda, and norteñas, almost all the time. When I finally started looking at music and choosing what to listen, sometime in 2002, I began listening to the Ramones and slowly moved towards listening to classic rock on KLOS and Arrow 93.1 (Remember it? I was crushed when it switched to the new format by replaying the same U2 song all day. My brother called me that day with the news that it was know one of those “Jack FM” radio stations). In classic rock, I stuck to Journey/Foreigner/Cream/Allman Brothers Band/Lynyrd Skynyrd/Creedence Clearwater Revival. While listening to these stations, I also became a fan of Metallica and Slayer by hanging out with metalheads for a good year in high school. When I found out both bands had local ties, I enjoyed them more.

Since I grew up with Mexican music, I don’t count encountering new artists in those genres as branching out. I’ve kept up listening to Mexican music, amassing a lot of music in the past years. I have run out of space on my iPod for all my music and now I’m forced to select which music to no longer have on my iPod (So along, Eminem! Adieu, Bon Jovi! Te chingaste, Gravy Train!!!!) A few weeks ago I found out how to embed things into my sidebar and promptly added the one thing I wanted to add: a map of locations from where my site’s main page is visited. Look below and the map is just above the blogroll. It’s hosted by Clustr Maps and really coms in handy so I know where people are checking in from, like India, Japan, Australia, Spain, Colombia, Chile…

Since I don’t know where you’re checking in from (mostly if you’re new), do let me know what brought you here in the comments!

I love Foreigner’s sound. Their sound always stops me in the middle of whatever I am doing, whether it’s reading something, cleaning, or playing video games. The drums, the guitars, Lou Gramm’s voice, it all comes together seamlessly. I’ve yet to encounter a Foreigner song that I cannot stand. Most of my videos have been songs in Spanish and I feel it’s time I start showcasing other artists/genres that I enjoy.

The first Foreigner song I heard was “I Want to Know What Love Is.” Truly amazing.

I will be away from my computer for the next three weeks. In the meantime, four posts are scheduled to appear. Comments will continue to be moderated and will not appear until I once again have internet access at the end of August. If you know where I will be, keep it quiet, please.

I decided to check out some newspapers from Jalisco to check up on news and see the goings on of my ancestral home state. I’m considering spending next summer in Guadalajara or in México, so it’s a good way to keep in touch. I was reading a feature on Los Altos de Jalisco and was dismayed at what I read in the first sentence.

Seriously, one would think that years after living as an actual México, the colonial way of thought would be gone.
